Why Are These Shampoos Rated Caution?
Caution-rated shampoos contain ingredients that sit on the boundary of Curly Girl compatibility. The two main categories are water-soluble silicones and volatile alcohols.
Water-soluble silicones (like PEG-modified dimethicone) can be washed out with gentle sulfate-free cleansers, so they don't cause the same buildup problems as non-water-soluble silicones. Volatile alcohols evaporate quickly and don't remain on the hair.
Many CG followers are comfortable using caution-rated products, while stricter adherents prefer to avoid them entirely. The choice is yours — these products are not harmful but are flagged for transparency.
